Occlusion frequency defines 3D depth.

Parallax Occlusion

Slicing space: how movement reveals hidden layers.

🧐 What do you see?β–Ό

Move your mouse across the rectangle. The foreground circle moves the most, the frame moves less, and the stars move the least. As they overlap, they occlude (block) each other, creating a powerful sense of 3D volume.

🧠 Why this worksβ–Ό

This combines Motion Parallax and Occlusion. In nature, objects closer to you move faster across your retina than distant ones (think of trees vs. mountains from a car window).

Additionally, your brain knows that if Object A covers Object B, Object A must be in front. By tying both cues together with your mouse movement, we create Interactive Depth.

Crank up the Intensity. This increases theParallax Offset, making the space between the layers feel exponentially larger.
