Rotating Spiral

Stare at the center of the spiral for 30 seconds. Then, strictly look at your hand or a stationary wall. You will see it warping!

The Waterfall Illusion

🧠 How It Worksβ–Ό

This effect is called the Motion Aftereffect (MAE). Your brain has neurons dedicated to different directions of motion (inward, outward, clockwise, etc.).

When you stare at an inward-spinning spiral, your "inward motion" neurons fire continuously until they fatigue. When you look away at a stationary object (which normally stimulates both inward and outward neurons equally), the exhausted "inward" neurons can't balance out the fresh "outward" neurons.

Result: The stationary object appears to expand or warp outward!
