Spiral Aftereffect

Designed for maximum neural adaptation. Stare at the center for 30 seconds, then immediately look at the back of your hand.

Maximum Adaptation

🧠 Neural Fatigueβ–Ό

This particular pattern uses concentric ripples that move continuously inward/outward. This targets the **direction-selective neurons** in your V1 cortex more effectively than a standard spiral.

By exhausting these neurons, we create a temporary imbalance in your visual system. When you look at a static surface, the non-exhausted neurons (detecting motion in the opposite direction) fire at their normal resting rate, but because the opposing neurons are silent (fatigued), the brain perceives strong motion in the opposite direction.
